THE ACKNOWLEGED MASTERS OF EPISTOLARY GENRE: Sasha from Austria

  Hello Janet,

I’m sending you this letter from Austria, Lech. We arrived here two days ago. We were warned about bad weather conditions at once. The blizzard was raging and we hid in a nearest guest house. There we were suggested to spend a night in a tiny, but cozy room. From the window I was watching large snowflakes falling. Sky was covered with grey clouds and the strong wind was blowing all night. I was quite scared and I spent all time here in depression. In the morning we saw that all roads were blocked with snow and we couldn`t get to our booked hotel. Then we were told that all buildings in the area had been turned off the heating.

I’m having an absolutely awful time. I have already got sick since I arrived and heating hasn’t been turned on yet. We even can`t dream about attractions, because they are closed due to weather. Yesterday while we were having dinner the radio speaker said about the possibility of avalanche near our guest house. I am miserable and frightened. Local people are nervous and they don`t want to speak to tourists. I consider that they are as frightened as we are, maybe even more. Today we heard something about evacuation, so now we are packing our things.

I want to ask you to meet us at the train station at 6pm today. Hope you will be able to do that.

Best wishes,
Sasha
