SHERLOCK HOLMES CLUB: The Gunman

The Gunman
Investigated by Mariia Popovych, 11b

It happened in Baker Street in London. There were a lot of people in the camera shop. They were eager to buy the modern photo cameras. The shop assistant showed them many kinds of cameras. So he was diverted from the events that took place in the shop. At this time a gunman rushed into the shop, came up to the cashier and seized 10 000£. Only then the shop assistant paid attention to him and he tried to stop him, but the gunman shot at him. The gunman went out of the shop very fast.

At this time a young girl of about 25 years of age saw the smartly-dressed robber running from the shop. She followed him along Baker Street. The gunman went to Tube Station. He got on a train, the girl did not manage to get on the train too. So, she ran up to a London Transport official and asked him to stop the train because there was a gunman on it. The official called the police station and the policemen came at once. The girl explained them that there was a gunman on board the train. That’s why they had to stop the train. Of course, it was very risky.

The staff shut the doors of the train, locking the robber in with the passengers. The gunman was trapped in the Tube. Police sealed off the station and searched the train coach after coach until they found and arrested the criminal. The gunman was kept in custody.

As for the shop assistant who was wounded by the gunman and sent to the hospital, he was operated there. When he became better after the operation, he appeared to be the first witness. His testimony was very important for the trial. Also, at the trial there were passengers from the train who gave testimony too. They recognized the criminal who had committed the crime. They told that some passengers had noticed that the robbery suspect was anxious and they at once understood that something had happened.

In two weeks the gunman was convicted. He was sentenced to 5-year imprisonment.
