Leafy Seadragon

There are many exotic animals on our planet. I want to tell you about the leafy seadragon. It is the most exotic animal because it looks like a twig. It is a fish so it lives in water. The leafy seadragons lay eggs. The color of the eggs changes from pink to orange or purple. Finally the young leafy seadragons appear from the eggs. They are about 20 cm long.

The length of the body of this fish is usually 35 centimeters. It lives along the southern and western coasts of Australia. It lives in coral reefs at a depth of 4 to 20 meters. The leafy seadragon loves a moderate temperature and sea plants. They usually live alone. Leafy seadragon is a real predator! It eats other fish which are smaller than it. He hasn’t got many teeth so it swallows its food. Try to imagine he eats 3000 shrimps a day! They live for about 4-5 years.

This fish looks very unusual. It has yellowish green, yellow or orange-yellow skin. The body and head are connected with each other with a neck! Other fishes usually don’t have a neck. On the head there are two very expressive big eyes. It also has got a long tail which looks like a duster. It can swim well. The maximum speed of movement of this fish is 150 meters per hour, it can swim at on this speed for a long time. Sometimes it doesn’t move for a long time (up to 68 hours).

This fish is in a big danger because of the rubbish in the ocean. Sometimes people catch fish for a home aquarium, but they must not do it. Leafy seadragon is the official emblem of the state of South Australia.

I think our planet is so interesting. And the leafy seadragons are also very original and exotic. They interested me because they are wonderful! We must take care of our animals and our nature!
