MY FAVOURITE FILM: Jenya Pugach, 9c

SHERLOCK

The name of my favourite movie is SHERLOCK. It was directed by Mark Gattis and Steven Moffat the acknowledged masters of crime series. It was released in 2010 by Hartswood Films for BBC. The cast is superb. Such popular actors as Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Andrew Scott, Una Stubbs and Rupert Graves starred in it. SHERLOCK received excellent reviews and won several awards, also the third season became the UK’s most watched drama series since 2001.

I first saw this film with my mother. I really lost count of count of how many times I’ve watched it afterwards, but the truth is that I’ve memorized almost the entire script which is really well written by Mark Gattis, Steven Moffat and Stephen Thompson! I like this TV series because it has a combination of solving crimes, reality, humor and romance. Every time when I watch it, I realize that this film is one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen.

The plot is the following. It isn’t a classical tale about fight of good and evil. It’s a story about two people who became best friends by accident. Sherlock is “not a psychopath, but a highly active sociopath” he used to live alone and his passion was solving criminal mysteries. But as soon as he met John his life begins to change for the better. Before meeting with John, Sherlock had no real friends. He had no friends at all. Their first joint case was a case “A study in Scarlet” it was a very difficult murder case and Sherlock was abducted by Moriarty’s assistant but John who had known him one day rushed to save Sherlock. Thanks to Watson Holmes found a man whom everybody saw but nobody noticed (who do you think it is?) Also, it’s a story about opposition between consulting detective and consultant villain. It’s more than just a fight; this is a battle for life and death because they both understand that one of them cannot live while other is alive. So what happens next: chase, fight, murder, funny moments, coming across the evil?, Trials for the two friends - it’s a small part of what will happen to them.

The film makers created an excellent plot with realistic characters. All the characters shown in the film seem to be real people and the viewer lives together with them. In this film I like all the characters: Sherlock, John, Moriarty, Mrs. Hudson, Mycroft, Greg, Mary, Molly - each of them is so simple and realistic. Also the sound track composed by David Arnold & Michael Price has become a real hit. Many scenes were dramatic; I was on the edge of my seat when stuntmen performed dangerous tricks.

I’ve seen this film more than 3 times. The series is excellent, the casting, the plot, the dialogues and the acting are superb. The film deeply touched me and became the most favourite film I’ve ever seen.
