FILM REVIEW: Alina Kovalenko, 9c

TAXI

I would like to tell about one of the best film I have ever seen. The name of my favorite movie is TAXI. It was directed by Gerard Pires, the acknowledged master of comedies. It was released in 1998 by Paramount comedy. The cast is superb. Such famous actors as Sami Naseri, Frederic Difenthal, Marion Cotillard, Emma Sjöberg starred in this film. It was the greatest box-office hit. It received excellent reviewes. Spectacular scenes, original French humor, excellent acting and directing work made this film very profitable - the rental brought more than 200 million dollars.

I first saw this film when I was about six years old on TV, I have been a fan of this film ever since. I really lost count of how many times I’ve watched it afterwards, but the truth is that I’ve memorized almost the entire script which is really well written by Luc Besson. I like this movie very much because it has a combination of reality, humor, romance, and suspense. Every time when I watch it, I feel that it is a brilliant story.

The action takes place in Marseille. The young Arab, Daniel, quits his job as a pizza delivery man in order to fulfill his long-standing dream of becoming a taxi driver. Meanwhile, the policeman Emilien for the eighth time unsuccessfully ties to pass the driving test. A gang of bank robbers appears in the city, using bright red high-speed Mercedes cars. Commander Embert, head of Emilien comes up with a special operation called “Cobra” and tries to catch the robbers, but unsuccessfully. Once leaving from his mother, Emilien uses the services of a taxi, where he meets Daniel. In a conversation, Daniel unflatteringly speaks about the police, and then demonstrates his driving skills. At the end of the trip, Emilien says he is a policeman. Instead of arresting Daniel, Emilien offers Daniel a deal - he will help to catch the robbers, and Emilien will close his eyes on his recklessness.

After many unsuccessful attempts to catch a gang, they still get Giber trying to stop the robbers by inventing another special operation - Puma, but they manage to escape. However, Daniel and Emilien already know that gray Mercedes should be pursued, not red ones. Using the help of his old friends from the pizza delivery service, Daniel traps a Mercedes.

I like character of Daniel in this movie. The character was played by Naseri Sami and the thing which I like about the character was that he was a very simple and honest person. He was a very simple man who did not differ from other people working in the usual work of the pizza deliveryman. For me this character is the embodiment of people who go to their dreams and achieve what they want. It seems to me that in our life there are no coincidences, everything that happens to us means and should have happened, you can even call it fate.

The sound tracks like Pulp Fiction-Misirlou; A la conquete - ONE SHOT and others have become real hits. The film is thought-provoking. Without direct instruction it makes us think about how everything in life can change, that everyone in the world can become a friend, the main thing is to dream and everything will come true. The story is extremely filled with different events – I’ve never seen anything like it before. it's hard to imagine how all the racing scenes were filmed, and how much time was spent to I’ve seen this movie more than 2-3 times. The story is excellent, the casting, plot, acting, dialogues and all other aspects of the movie are superb. The movie deeply touched me and became the most favorite movie I have ever seen.
