After Earth

The name of my favourite movie is “After Earth”. It was directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It was released in 2013 by Columbia Pictures. The cast is superb. Jaden Smith and Will Smith starred in this film. It was the greatest box-office hit with revenues of $243.8 million. It received excellent reviews and I particularly like it because of convincing actors` perfomance.

I first saw this film with my family at the movie theatre right after it was released. I really lost count of how many times I`ve watched it afterwards, but the truth is that it is always exciting to watch it again and again. I`ve memorized almost the entire script which is really well written by Will Smith himself! I like this movie very much because it has a combination of reality and irreality, father and son relationships and suspense. Every time when I watch it, I feel that it is one of the greatest films ever made.

It is a classical science fiction action film. The action takes place in the 31st century. The scene is laid on new wild Earth, which people left thousand years ago. The main character is Cypher Raige who has a teenage son Kitai. The plot is the following. The spaceship crashes on the Earth. Cypher and Kitai are the only people who survived, however both Cypher`s legs are broken and he cannot move. They have to give a distress call, but the only device that can do it is an emergency lighthouse which has fallen in 100 kilometers away from them. There was a dangerous alien predator – Urcu on the ship which was kept in a special cage. However, when the spaceship crashed he became free. Urcu cannot see or smell you; it only feels your fear. So, Kitai has to find the lighthouse and to give a SOS avoiding dangerous creatures that live on the earth of the 31st century.

In this movie I like the character of Cypher Raige. The character was played by Will Smith and the thing which I like about the character was that he was a very courageous and brave person. He is widower who cares about his son the way fathers always do it, without a lot of emotions.

The film makers created a superb plot with brilliant characters. The acting of Will Smith is totally outstanding. The special effects made the movie unforgettable. The alien Urcu was so convincing that I almost believed it was real. It is an absolutely exciting film that kept me absorbed from beginning to end.

I`ve seen the movie more than 2-3 times. The story is excellent, the casting, the plot, the acting, the dialogues and all other aspects of the movie are superb. The movie deeply touched me and became the most favourite movie I have ever seen.
