Theft of the Largest Diamond
Investigated by Natasha Holmes, 11A

It would seem that it may be better to protect a precious stone in a safe with a lock with 100 million possible combinations, thermal motion sensors, radars and other security tools. But as they say, for every force there is a counter-force.
A month ago, Barclays Bank was robbed at night from 14 to 15 October, the main repository with 160 safety deposit boxes in which there were jewels of the most famous people in the world was robbed and the largest diamond in the world had disappeared. The theft was discovered immediately, just when a bank employee came into a repository in the middle of the day. The Director called the detective who carefully searched the crime scene. The first suspicious fact was that the robbers had not been noticed by any surveillance cameras of the Bank and security guard hadn't seen them. The detective found no signs of forced entry.

Then he questioned all staff who was in the Bank during the crime. And the first clue was found. The Bank is located in the city center, but near the river, so rats or mice can be seen in office space. And that night, one guard heard a rustle in the ventilation mine and he did not pay attention to the fact. The detective took the plan of the Bank and found that the ventilation led from the street into a Bank repository. The thieves might have been short and of quite small build, so they could have sneaked through the ventilation shafts. A piece of jacket of the robber was, but that evidence wasn't enough. The detective decided to explore the repository again, and he was lucky. A sign of fingerprints was found on the safety deposit box, apparently, the robber had taken his glove so that it would have been easier to open the door of the safety deposit box. Finally, the detective got on the trail of criminals. Through the database set the identity of one of the robber was identified. About a week later he was arrested in his own apartment.
The case was referred to court. After interrogation, the names of three accomplices were known to the investigator. On the 29th of October John Brighton, Carl Brown, James Samuels, George croup appeared in court. The judge sentenced them to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
