Virtual tour to Britain: Julia Tsvetkova, 10b

THE HOW TO BE BRITISH COLLECTION REVIEW
By Julia Tsvetkova, 10b

I have read the book under the title The How To Be British Collection. The authors of the book are Martin Ford and Peter Legion. That is a funny set of postcards dealing with the most common stereotypes of British culture, such as the weather, pronunciation, pets, fish and chips, tea and so on.

The first part is the introduction. It tells about Britain in general. The author also tells about himself and about differences of the British from other people.

In the second part Britain is described as a completely different world. When you arrive there, you can be disorientated and confused, but the authors think that it's in the order of things. If you read this part, you will know one thing that every visitor soon discovers.

The third part of this book tells about the red telephone box. It's better than our mobile phone because when you are inside the box everything you said is private. So Brits feel more comfortable inside the red telephone box.
In the fourth part the author of the book tells about toughness of Brits. They can be lightly dressed in the coldest season, but at the same time walk in a sweater in summer. They do not care about their appearance and they show their independence of fashion, weather, social convention and colour theory.

The fifth part tells about importance of tea in the British life. It also tells about the origin of tea and who discovered it. Do you know who Earl Grey was? What do you know about the East India Tea Company? Read the fifth part and try to find the answers to these questions.

I think that The How To Be British Collection is a truly unique book. No other book will be able to describe Britain with such peculiar sense of humour and gripping details. I recommend everyone this book and I hope that you will like it.
