DON’T BE LAZY: Weed your garden

The Man Who Didn’t Weed His Garden
Written by Ivan Lazo, 8a

There was a man who lived alone in a big house in the village. Once he decided to plant strawberry. He hoped to have a good harvest of strawberries. He planned to sell his good harvest of strawberries at the market and earn money for his life.

The man bought the best variety of strawberry seedlings in the store. He spent the whole day to plant the seedlings into the ground and watered them very well. Every day the man watered his strawberry. Not only strawberry grew out every day but the grass became thicker and thicker. The grass had to be weeded at least once a week. The man had other work about the house, so he had no time to do the weeding.

One day he looked at his garden and didn’t see any strawberries there. The grass was so thick and long that the man couldn’t find any berry. The garden was green with grass but not red with strawberries as he had hoped. The ground was covered with grass like with a green carpet.

The man didn’t know what to do! He was so unhappy because his own garden was full of long thick grass. The man had no time to think because his harvest of strawberry had to be gathered. So he decided to take the scythe and to mow his crops together with the grass. When he began to mow all the strawberries were damaged or destroyed. The man was exhausted after he had mowed all his garden and disappointed as he didn’t have any berries.

So he decided that next year it would be better to weed his garden from the grass once a week and have a good harvest of strawberries at the end of the strawberry season.
