One Night at School
Written by Ira Dmytrychenko, 11b
There was a freezing winter evening outside. The whole school was shrouded in ringing silence. Only cats were wailing loudly. The stars were already twinkling in the sky, illuminating the dark streets. Caleb, the teacher in high school, was sitting in his tiny parlor. He was absolutely exhausted. An annoying clatter of hours hovered over him. “I’ve been here too long,” Caleb thought nervously. But so much work was ahead.
“Damn, I don’t have time,” exclaimed he hysterically. Caleb couldn’t find the right papers. It extremely infuriated him, so he decided to stroll to the adjoining room. While Caleb was wandering through the hall, he heard a creak of the window. This sound was entirely horrible, but he knew there was nothing to be afraid of. Caleb entered the room, the light was flashing frantically, and it frightened the teacher even more. A quiet chuckle came from somewhere, but the man didn’t pay attention to it. Suddenly he saw an enormous shadow that hung over him. Caleb turned round hurriedly, but saw nothing. He took all what he needed and headed back. But a strange feeling didn't leave him and not in vain.
At that moment, Caleb heard a strange creak. Someone pursued him, no doubt. Turning around he saw the same gigantic shadow. Caleb began to dash, the heart burst from his chest. He didn't hear anything except his frequent breathing. Caleb rushed into the room and hid in the corner. An unknown silhouette threateningly approached him. Here he felt how it touched his hand. And...
He woke up in the same corner. Birds were singing outside, the rays of the sun touched the early dew. Caleb saw a note on the floor. He read it and a vicious sigh appeared on his face. Guess what! The last night was only the joke of his students. “They’ll pay for it,” said the teacher vengefully and went to prepare for the first lesson.
