HOW I FELL ILL: Ira Stepanova, 11b

The Story About How My Day Was Ruined
(based on real events)

Written by Ira Stepanova, 11b

That was a normal day… Neither gorgeous, nor awful… Everything was okay. I was sitting at my last lesson; there were no signs of trouble.

Suddenly, it began to rain heavily. Heavy drops started to drum on the windows and windowsills. I sadly looked at the street, because my parents couldn’t pick me up from school. I sighed, pulled the hood over my face and ran. By the way, I live far from my school and when I got home I was in a “fabulous” mood.

Naturally, by the evening I realized that I had caught cold. I got a sore throat. I was suffering from a splitting headache and a running nose. I felt more dead than alive. I was running a temperature. I had troubles swallowing, I felt feverish. I literally thought I was living my last minutes… until my mom came home. She gave me some medicine, which mothers always have, made me drink a lot of tea and left me to rest.

Next day we went to the hospital. Doctor listened to all my complaints, felt my pulse, obviously examined my throat and tongue, and listened to my heart and lungs. She said that I had caught a plain cold (I didn’t agree inside because I felt like death warmed up but I realized that the doctor was right) and prescribed my nose drops, cough mixture and some other medicine. After several days filled with my mother's care, I recovered.
