HEALTH PROBLEMS: Julia Kolchik, 11b

My Unforgettable Disease
Written by Julia Kolchik, 11b

I would like to tell a few words about my disease. Since my childhood I have been sick a lot of times. My mother told me that she had sent me to the kindergarten when I was 3 . However, after I had got sick 3 times a month, she took me from there and spent a year with me at home. Usually we do not remember our first years of life, but I remember this year. So what about my unforgettable disease.

One day I came to at school in a bad mood, because of that fact, that I had 3 important tests. I was sitting in the first row near the window. I was writing a test and felt like I was a piece of cheese in the microwave. Later, I decided not to pay attention to it. Afterwards I felt unbearable feeling. I itched everywhere and wanted to scratch myself so much, that I can’t even describe this. When I returned home, I undressed and was in shock. My back was covered with bright spots, which seemed to whisper to me "scratch us". I approached my mother and said that someone had painted me.

After that we went to the doctor. He said chickenpox is a highly contagious disease caused by the initial infection with varicella zoster virus. I didn't know what this meant. After he told me that chickenpox is an airborne disease which spreads easily through the coughs and sneezes of an infected person, I recollected that my classmate had this disease. The doctor asked me about my complains and I had a list of them. Firstly, I had nausea, loss of appetite, aching muscles and a headache. Secondly, I had terrible rash. I noticed rash had a shape of bubble.

After 1-2 days acne appeared. Next 2-3 days on their site crust was formed and all this was accompanied with strong itching. My mom told me not to scratch them because life scars would appear on the places where spots had been. As for treatment, I had high temperature and the doctor prescribed me ibuprofen and paracetamol.

The last day, when I was in the doctor's office, was the best. He told me that now I had immunity against chickenpox and would never catch it again. However, later I found out that there had been cases when a person was sick 2 times. As I'm used to looking for advantages, this disease left me at home for 2 weeks.

All in all, I wish everyone to be healthy and happy.
