HOW I GOT INJURED: Julia Tsvetkova, 11b

How I Got Injured
Written by Julia Tsvetkova, 11b

It was unbelievable! I had got the second fracture in my life. I didn’t even think would get injured again, but it happened. Once, during rehearsal, we were jumping over a huge rope, as it was part of our dance show. It was necessary, because we had to have a concert on the occasion of the ending of the dance season. We were exhausted, but continued to exercise. When it was my turn to jump, I did it and suddenly twisted my ankle. I will not lie, it was painful, but not to the point of losing consciousness. My leg wasn’t swollen; there weren’t any bruises, so I just sat to have a rest. The next day it hurt too and I didn’t know what I should do. So I continued to practice dancing, went to the local sanatorium to get some help and tried not to notice the pain.

Everything changed after a couple of days when the leg was swollen. After that I decided to go to the hospital to see a surgeon. When doctor examined me, he referred me to have the leg X-rayed. The world was turned upside down. It was the last day before concert and I discovered that I had fractured my ankle! I couldn’t believe my “luck”. In fact, I had been scared of that diagnosis before I visited a surgeon. So, he said that he was going to/had to put my leg in plaster. I refused, of course, because I couldn’t let my dance school down. The doctor said that I was crazy, as if I hadn’t had my leg put in cast, it could be a fracture with displacement. I preferred to be crazy and I didn’t follow the doctor’s advice.

Eventually, I danced the concert, taking a very strong painkiller and the next day I put my leg in plaster. I spent ten days in plaster and, fortunately, this treatment proved successful. I became a hero in the eyes of my relatives, friends and trainers.
