SHERLOCK HOLMES CLUB: The Utter Fool

The Utter Fool
Investigated by Maria Kostenko, 11b

On the first of April the man named Ted Thomson committed a crime. It was near 7 pm when the offender rushed inside the United Kingdom National Bank. There were few people in the evening and the bank was getting ready to close. He was wearing a white shirt and black trousers, like he had just run out from an office. Also like any decent robber he was in a black mask with а handgun and a bag for money. What's remarkable is that he didn't have any accomplices. Further everything went according to the usual scenario: he shot in the air, intimidating those present, threatened to kill the cashier and required to give him all the cash. He even took a young woman hostage. All in all, he successfully left the bank with a satisfied smile on his face, however, the most interesting is somewhat further.

As the police arrived, they began to question witnesses. People told distinctive features of the offender: he was wearing formal clothes, his voice was deep. But police didn't even need to create a photo fit picture. The criminal forget to take the badge with his name from his shirt off. It turned out that Ted Thomson was an employee of this bank, whose salary had been detained. He just wanted to restore justice; however, the poor guy chose the wrong way. He had the opportunity to tell everybody that that was a joke (the first of April), but, unfortunately, he obstinately began to threaten people from the first moment. What would have happened, if someone had told him about the badge? Well, he is really a fool, that was his day.

That day he made the attempt to leave the country. The police handcuffed him in the airport and the criminal was kept in custody from that moment. Next week the case was brought to court. On the twenty-fourth of April Ted Thomson was tried for the bank robbery and taking hostage. Ted confessed in committing the crime. He told that was the only way out from that situation. He had no money to buy goods, pay bills. The jury relented after Ted's narration. Due to this he was sentenced to five years in prison instead of seven. Ted Thomson was released ahead of schedule after 4 years in prison in May of 2010.
