LOST FOREVER
by Maria Kaminskaya, 8b

Arthur got into a fight with his parents, and to calm down a bit, he went for a walk on the street. He took his dog with him so he wouldn’t be so lonely. It was already dark outside, black clouds were gathering in the sky, a cold wind was blowing and the atmosphere was not the best. The boy was so angry, he didn’t even notice he was quite far from home. Suddenly, lightning flashed, Arthur’s dog, apparently frightened, started barking, and broke out of the leash, rushing off into the dark. Naturally, the boy could not abandon his dog and ran after it. Arthur was frightened, but it was even more frightening to lose his close friend. Not seeing anything, the boy stumbled and felt the chill sweeping through his body. He had fallen fell into the river! The water was icy, the sky was deafening with thunder and blinding lightning. The boy saw that there were branches near him, but could not grasp them, but it was his only chance of survival. But Arthur started choking himself, and he didn’t know what was going on, he gave up, he didn’t have the strength to fight, he lost consciousness, his body drifted further and further into the open sea.

When he regained consciousness, trying to open his eyes - the sun blinded him with a bright light, his head was humming, his whole body was sore, he couldn’t even move. The guy pulled all his muscles and sat down and, frankly, he couldn’t figure out where he was or what he was. At first, he thought he was dead, but it was real, the sun was shining on him, hot sand was burning his feet, his head was spinning. He passed out again. He woke up in some kind of hovel, and looking outside, he saw people - young, old, women and men - and they noticed him, too. At first nothing was clear, they sat by the fire and cooked food, speaking an obscure language. Later, they gestured to Arthur that their tribe was called Lost. Why? Because every one of these people was here not of their own free will, but on an unfortunate occasion. They took the boy in, what else was they should to do with him? There were 30 of them. They lived in small houses built of palm bark, fed on fruit, hunted animals or fished. It was like in the movies, and for the boy, everything seemed out of unreal, because there were no civilizational benefits at all. Three months later, Arthur was more accustomed to his new life, helping his elders with hunting and building, even began to understand a little of their language. And then a year later, he talked calmly to them, and he was part of this tribe. Sometimes, at night, he remembered his family and what brought him here. He was really worried about how his parents were, if they were okay, and as a sister, and what was with the dog. Because of those thoughts, he was sad, but he tried not to think about it, he knew he was unlikely to get out of here, so he just had to accept it. Plus, here in the Lost Tribe, everyone loved him, he helped everyone, and in general, he didn’t feel alone. There were rules and customs because time was different. Four years later, Arthur was already 18, and according to the tribe’s tradition, he had to have a family for the next three months. It was not a problem, Arthur liked the girl Lena with whom they swore before the God of life and death to be inseparable as long as their bodies existed in this world. Those were the traditions. She later gave him a child, and they were really happy. Arthur became the chief of the tribe after a while. The Lost Tribe became a tribe of Life, it flourished and Arthur would be a really good husband, father and leader. He had a vague recollection of his parents, his native language, and, well, his life before he came to this island, he didn’t want to remember anymore. But he was happy, because even so, he can be an honest, kind and respected man who could find happiness here, far from all mankind.
