IT'S FUN TO WRITE: Sofia Senchina, 8d

JUNGLE
by Sofia Senchina, 8d

Francis Clarke is an archaeologist and biologist of one of the most renowned universities specializing in this. This summer, she went on an expedition to the Amazon jungle to explore new unseen plants and look for the remains of ancient civilizations that might possibly be there. But at one point it could have ended badly.

Summer 2019. Francis got to Amazon jungle with her expedition team: Jake, Lily, Adel and others. They tried to stick together and not go far from each other so as not to get lost, but just in case they had walkie-talkies. Every day before dusk they were taken away, and every day at dawn they were taken back to the jungle. Nothing special happened. Lily found a rare flower, and Jake found a new species of grasshoppers. So a month passed.

And now it was the last day of a not very successful expedition and they arrived in the jungle, which had already become something familiar to them. For the whole month, they did not manage to see any large beast that could be dangerous. And to be honest, they were happy about it. Frances Clark looked up from the flower she was studying on the soft jungle floor. She felt hot and sticky as it was the middle of the afternoon. Since she was passionate about work, she moved a little further away from everyone. Since she had a walkie-talkie, she was not very worried. She reached into her pocket and found her walkie-talkie there.

- Is it discharged? - said Frances while she was staring at her little walkie-talkie.

Since she was sure that she had not wandered far and knew this area quite well, she thought that she would find her way back. Everything was strangely quiet. No animal sounds, no rustling of leaves. Suddenly, she heard something hissing over her head. Her eyes grew wide with terror as a huge python wound itself around her.

- HELP!!!! - she screamed loudly. - Someone help me!!!

Panic seized her. But she remembered that she had a knife in her pocket. She was still screaming for help as she tried to get her one chance to escape. And now she is almost saved, but the knife treacherously falls out of her sweaty palms and she is unable to reach it. She has already mentally buried herself in the belly of this python. But hope dies last and she kept screaming. And then, when it would seem that the hope in her eyes faded away and she was already almost unconscious, the python loosens its grip. Then for Francis everything was like a fog: someone picks her up in his arms, but they are already going somewhere, she will be filled with chills, the plane, people, a lot of people and silence. Now Francis sits in the laboratory and listens to the story of how Jake nobly saved her by chopping off the head of a python with a machete. And all this seems to her as some kind of terrible dream.

- All is well that ends well! - said Francis.

And what do you think Francis never went on an expedition again? Oh no, that wouldn't be a story about our Francis. The second you read my story, Francis, somewhere far away in the jungle, is exploring new types of plants that may one day become the salvation of humanity!
