I Love the Treasures of My Country

Written by Marina Ikonomu, 6a

Ukraine is my motherland and I am proud that I am Ukrainian. I was born in Ukraine, I grow up and I study here. I love its picturesque views - fields, rivers, forests and mountains.

Ukraine is situated in the central part of Europe. Its neighbour to the east is Russia, to the north is Belarus, and to the west are Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova, and Romania. To the south it is washed by the two magnificent seas: the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. In the west of Ukraine there are the lofty Carpathian Mountains. How beautiful is Hoverla, the highest top of Ukraine, which is 2061metres high. How nice it is to stand on its top  and to feel the wind whistling in the ears, and to enjoy the views.

I am proud of the capital of Ukraine, the unforgettable city of Kiev. It is very old and beautiful. There are many schools, factories, museums, and theatres. The city was named after one of  the three brothers, his name is Kyi. Through the whole Ukraine the powerful Dnieper river flows. Its length is 2201 kilometres. The name of the river has the Scythian origin and is translated as «deep river».

Like other countries Ukraine has its spiritual symbols and they are enen more important for me than Ukraine’s beautiful nature and impressive towns. One of them is willow, it grows on the banks of the rivers. Also the symbol of Ukraine is guelder rose. Even in winter its bushes are decorated with red berries. Guelder rose  is a  symbol of love, beauty, and  home happiness. The ancient amulets are  rushnyky. They accompanied a person  from birth to death. Vyshyvanka is a spiritual symbol of the Ukrainian people, of the  native land, of the parental home, and of  the warmth of  mother`s hands.

I like our Ukrainian petrykivka painting, which dates back to the 17th century and develops nowadays, and is known around the world.

The works of the prominent writers such as Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko, Lesia Ukrainka, brought us the truth about ancient heroic times. The history of Ukraine is very interesting and majestic.

Our Ukrainian language is beautiful and rich, melodic and sincere as the soul of the Ukrainian citizens whatever nationality they are – Ukrainians, Russians, Georgians, Armenians, Belarusians and many others. Our people are diligent, hard-working, friendly, kind, generous, and cheerful. Our song is melodic and charming. It is easier to live with a song, because it can express love and sorrow, joy and sadness, dreams and hopes.

I want to see a prosperous Ukraine, where everyone is happy. I believe that all difficulties will be overcome; Ukraine will be a happy and joyful home for my nation.

We deserve it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
