I Always Return to My Motherland As to My Mother

Written by Maria Oberemok, 10a - the winner of the third prize

Ukraine is my motherland. I am so thankful to the God that I was born and I am living here. Despite everything it is the best place in the world and with pride in my heart I always say that I am Ukrainian.

Endless plains, charming forests, majestic mountains, rivers and fertile land are the real beauty of Ukraine. Incredible landscapes enchant you at first sight and you can never forget them. Ukrainians are very cheerful and friendly. We have got a lot of traditions and  holidays. The history of Ukraine is long and the fate of the nation was difficult. We are proud of our courageous countrymen: Hetmans Bohdan Hmelnitsky and Ivan Mazepa; unsurpassed masters of the Ukrainian word and fighters for justice and independence: Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Ivan Franko and Michalo Kotsyubynsky…

Only Kobzar by Taras Shevchenko was translated into more than one hundred foreign languages. Our mother tongue is one of the most melodious and the treasury of Ukrainian songs is countless. I can’t compare Ukraine with other countries, because it is my motherland. Wherever I have been I always return to her, as to mother.

Now, it is a hard time for Ukraine. In the East the real heroes protect our country without fear to die for peace. Thanks to our defenders, who protect the country and keep peace we can study and then use all our knowledge to make Ukraine powerful. We are the new generation that can change our country for the better. Over these three years we have become stronger and started to understand that liberty is so important.

In conclusion, I want to say that Ukraine for me is like mother, who raised, nursed and taught me, so I love her  very much.

LoveUkraine, likesunthatyou love
Like wind, like grass, and like water,
Whenever you're happy, in moments of gladness,
At times of trouble, do love.
