Changes in School Curriculum
V. Dychakovskiy, 10a

It goes without saying, that education is an important part of our life, because school gives us a secure base. This base helps us to enter senior life. However, of course there is something that everyone wants to change.
Firstly, I’m not satisfied with current school curriculum and timetable due to the fact that there are days on which the timetable consists of hard subjects. It results in huge amount of homework, enormous number of lessons and no time for revising. It becomes harder to get profound knowledge and to cope with all assignments.
Obviously, our school curriculum should be changed because we have a huge number of obligatory subjects which wouldn’t be necessary for us in higher education establishment.

Needless to say that Ukrainian Ministry of Education should follow the suit of some western countries where school curricula are compiled in a wiser way, for example Great Britain. There studies are highly specialized. Students specialize in exact sciences, humanities, art or commerce. They focus on only 3 or 4 main subjects which are necessary to pass the advanced level exams, called A-level exams at the age of 18.
To my mind the curriculum should be changed only for senior schools. In primary and secondary school we get basic knowledge, but in senior school we must have an opportunity need to choose subjects which we need in future so the number of subjects should be restricted. Being a senior student I would exclude PT lesson due to the fact that it isn’t useful for education. Everyone can attend a gym. I would add a lesson of psychology. In this way we could get an essential life skill to understand each other. History and literature should be studied by senior students no matter specialization they choose. Also foreign languages, basic math and basic biology would be obligatory.
As for optional subjects, the world culture and trigonometry should be taught as elective courses, because they’re not understandable for everyone. Actually, I’m satisfied with the elective courses in my school, due to the fact that there we get something more than a curriculum can give.
To cap it all, if my proposals were put into practice, I think that it would change the quality of secondary education for the better. However, even now graduates of Ukrainian schools are in demand in western countries. So, I can add that I’m proud of educational system of Ukraine, and the high level of knowledge which it gives.
